Parents - Newsletter Week of August 20th


Just a reminder that all activities are based on the number of children present each day, ages of the children present, and mood of the children.

August Thematic Unit – Under the Sea!



Color of the Month – Blue

What We Did On Monday: We began our day by building with our Duplo blocks (to develop fine motor skills) and playing on our ride on toys (to develop gross motor skills). Then we enjoyed Independent Reading Time (IRT) where we focused this week on turning the pages of the book from left to right. After that, I introduced the BOTW and the SOTW. Later we pretended to cook for each other with our kitchen toys (to develop our imagination), played with our baby dolls (to learn how to be nurturing and sympathetic of the feelings of others), explored our Laugh and Learn Home (to develop our gross motor skills), worked with our electronic learning toys (to learn colors, numbers, shapes, and letters), played with our dress up jewelry (to practice putting it on and taking it off) and our Little People playsets (to develop our imaginations).



Special Enrichment for Monday: We played our magnetic fishing game (to help us develop fine motor skills) which is helping us name and identify sea animals! We also watched the movie Blue's Clues Big Party and talked about how Blue the dog is the Color of the Month - BLUE!



What We Did On Tuesday: We started our day off by pretending to cook for each other with our kitchen toys (to develop our imagination) and driving our toy cars (to develop fine motor skills). Then we enjoyed IRT where we focused this week on turning the pages of the book from left to right. Then we sang the SOTW and read the BOTW. Later in the day, we also played with our balls (to develop gross motor skills),explored our Laugh and Learn Home (to develop our gross motor skills),  built towers with our alphabet blocks (to learn to stack) and then had fun knocking them down! We also counted the blocks as we stacked them and tried to identify pictures that are on their sides as well.  We also had fun with our LeapFrog farm animal magnet set (to learn to match an animal's front and back halves), our toy animals (to learn the names of, sounds made by and to develop our imaginations), dress up clothes (to learn to pretend), binoculars (to learn to see items far away), built with our waffle blocks (to learn how to interlock) and played with our electronic learning toys (to learn colors, numbers, shapes, and letters).


Special Enrichment for Tuesday:  We practiced counting fish from 1 through 10. We talked about what coral is in the ocean and looked at pictures of it. We also practiced identifying colors.


What We Did On Wednesday: No one came to play today.

What We Did On Thursday: We started our day off by playing with our balls (to develop gross motor skills) and had fun singing familiar songs together. Then we enjoyed IRT where we focused this week on turning the pages of the book from left to right. Then we sang the SOTW and read the BOTW. Later in the day, we also played with our Bop It Penguin (to learn cause and effect), explored our Laugh and Learn Home (to develop our gross motor skills), pretended to cook for each other with our kitchen toys (to develop our imagination) and playing our musical instruments (to learn about the sounds of and parts of various instruments).



Special Enrichment for Thursday: We watched the movie The Wiggles at Wiggle Bay and learned about the ocean!




What We Did On Friday: We began our day by exploring our Laugh and Learn Home (to develop our gross motor skills) and playing with our Little People playsets (to develop our imaginations). Then we enjoyed IRT where we focused this week on turning the pages of the book from left to right. Then we read the BOTW and sang the SOTW. After that, we enjoyed playing with our musical instruments (to learn about the sounds of and parts of various instruments), balls (to develop gross motor skills), built with our alphabet blocks (to learn to stack) and had fun with our Lights and Sounds Show toy (to learn the sounds of various instruments and to learn cause and effect).



Special Enrichment for Friday: We watched the movie Baby Neptune: Discovering Water to learn more about ocean animals!



What We Did On Saturday: We started our day by exploring our Laugh and Learn Home (to develop our gross motor skills) and playing with our LeapFrog farm animal magnet set (to learn to match an animal's front and back halves).Then we enjoyed IRT where we focused this week on turning the pages of the book from left to right.Then we sang the SOTW and read the BOTW. Later in the day, we also played with our dress up clothes (to learn to pretend), used our indoor slide (to develop our gross motor skills), pretended to cook for each other with our kitchen toys (to develop our imagination), explored our Laugh and Learn Home (to develop our gross motor skills) and built with our bumpy blocks (to learn about textures and to learn to interlock).



Special Enrichment for Saturday: We took a trip to the library to read some books and play in their quiet corner. We had so much fun!
