Review and Giveaway for The Wooden Horse (US Only Ends 11/18/12)

I contacted The wooden horse many months ago via Etsy and together we agreed on a review for November. They chose which item I would review and shipped it as well as the winner's item to me. They chose to have me ship the winner's item because they are based in Lithuania and did not want the winner to have to have a long waiting period to receive their item.

The wooden horse has asked me to mention that they are looking for wholesale partners to sell their toys wholesale.

While Daniella is still a bit young to use this toy, I think that once she is old enough, it will get used for a few years. The shoe looks like it will be an incredible learning tool!

Doesn't it look great? It is a hand-painted item in a bright and colorful palate.

The top green piece does separate completely from the bottom natural colored piece when you unlace the shoe.
The shoelace does come completely off so that in all there are three separate pieces.

There is a sticker labeling the shoe with the brand name The Wooden Horse. Be careful with little ones as this could be a choking hazard.

The wooden horse does offer personalization of their products. However, I unfortunately cannot recommend this service to you. This is the first time I have had to add something fairly negative to a review and I have been stressing for months over just the right way to say it. Here goes -
When I was offered the shoe to review, I was offered the option of having it personalized. I asked if I could have my shoe be either red or blue. As you can see in the pictures above, it is orange and green. I also asked if I could have it personalized with our family name - BORGIA. Here is what I received :

If you look closely, you can see that the name BORGIA was penciled on and then hap-hazardly painted over with a complementary paint color.  Bear in mind, we arranged for this review/giveaway back in June. As soon as our shoe arrived,  I emailed Simona (my The wooden horse contact) to ask her about the personalization. It wasn't as cutesy as I expected it to be. I figured that if I let her know about it and ask if that was how personalization was normally done, it would give her ample time to fix the situation, should she choose to. Come to find out, she had been on vacation when it was personalized. I found this to be a bit odd. If she normally did the personalization and the review was not for another 4-5 months, why rush to ship it out when she would not be there to personalize it? When I emailed her pictures of the personalization, she did not offer any way to fix it. This disappointed me.

If as a sponsor for a review/giveaway, a blogger gives you an open opportunity to fix an item and you have an ample amount of time - four months, in this case - I highly suggest that you do what you can to correct the concern!

However, the winner in this giveaway need not worry. Because I received your item ahead of time, yours could not be personalized - which in this case appears to be to your benefit.

Don't get me wrong - I think these toys are fabulous! They have a wide variety of adorable wooden. toys. I just cannot recommend Simona's personalization as I do not know what it looks like.

The wooden horse has a lot of fabulous items in their etsy shop - you really do need to go check them out! :)

  4. I think my 5 yr old would have a BLAST with the wood sword. But I would prefer him to get the same as you, since he is in Kindergarten and needs to start tying his own shoes.
