Review with Giveaway for the Children's Book "Nate Rocks the World" by Karen Tokras Poz!

Brandon was so excited to yet again review a book for Karen Pokras Toz! He cannot get enough of her books!!!

This one is called "Nate Rocks the World". Here is a quick synopsis:

"10 year old Nathan Rockledge cannot catch a break. After all, life as a fourth grader can be hazardous - what with science projects to deal with and recess football games to avoid. Everyone, including his best friend, Tommy, seems to have bead luck when hanging around Nathan. Throw in an older sister who is a royal pain, a dad who is stuck in the past, and a mom who keeps trying to poison him with her awful cooking, and poor Nathan's life as a fourth grader appears to be completely doomed.

Armed only with his sketchpad, his imagination, and his wits, Nathan Rockledge navigates the perils of the fourth grade in style, to emerge heroic, as Nate Rocks, proving that even a 10 year old can accomplish great things."

Here is our review, in Brandon's own words:

Just like Nathan, I don't like Lisa very much. She seems very annoying. Especially if she were in my class for five years.
The parts of the book when Nathan turns into Nate Rocks are my favorite parts. The one I like the most is the cowboy one.
My next favorite part of the book is where they are on vacation. Even though Tommy gets hurt, I still felt like I was there with them!
I recommend this book to kids my age, a little younger and maybe a little older. I am in fifth grade and will be turning eleven next week!

Review of CLIF Kid Zbar Crispy

I contacted CLIF Kid a few months ago and boy, were my kids excited when we finally heard back from them! They wanted us to try out there newest bars! Here is their description of them:

CLIF Kid® makes healthy snacks from organic ingredients that are specially-created for kids’ growing bodies, developing taste buds and active lives. CLIF Kid Zbar Crispy is an organic rice crispy snack for kids with a light and airy texture. Made with 8g whole grains and a sprinkling of toasted oats, Zbar Crispy is USDA-certified organic and free of trans fats, hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup; artificial sweeteners, flavors or preservatives; and ingredients sourced from GMOs. Zbar Crispy is available at select grocery and natural retailers across the country and comes in four kid-friendly flavors including Chocolate, Chocolate Chip, Cookies ‘N Cream and Peanut Butter. (SRP: $0.89 per bar; $4.49 per 6-count box)

We received one box of each flavor to try! Each box had six bars inside. Those 24 bars disappeared faster than anything I have brought home for them to eat in at least a year! I could not believe how quickly they devoured them. They were seriously all gone in only about one week and my husband only ate one bar. I did try one bar of each flavor as well.

Brandon's favorite flavor was the peanut butter. That could be because his school is peanut free so he loves to eat anything peanut butter right now even if it is only at home! :)

Daniella loved them all equally except for the Cookies 'N Cream which she didn't like at all. Oddly, since she LOVES chocolate.

I loved that the ingredient lists were easy to read and full of wholesome ingredients. I would like to see CLIF consider some other flavors that are not so "candy" like. Maybe fruit and nut or just fruit? I think a strawberry or citrus fruit one would be yummy! I did notice that they each had little "bits" on them - chocolate chips on the chocolate, peanut butter chips on the PB ones, etc. My son and I both felt that there was too few of them on the bars, only about 5 on each bar. The flavor of them were great though so maybe it wouldn't matter overall?

We were really pleased overall with the bars. Obviously, otherwise they would not have been eaten so quickly. They were gone before I could even take a picture of the box of the Cookies 'N Cream OR the little bits I referred to! :)

You can purchase them on the CLIF Bar website!

Check out CLIF Bar's Facebook page, too.

Review with Giveaway for Goat Milk Stuff (US Only, Ends 03/03/13)

I contacted Goat Milk Stuff a couple of months ago about doing a review with giveaway and I was so excited when they agreed!

I received several items from them to review.

I received one full size bar of goat milk soap, 2 half size bars of goat milk soap and one tube of lip balm.

A note about their soaps from their website -
"As our goats might say, our goat milk soaps contain nothing Baah-d. Ever. We use only natural fats and oils that produce a long lasting, moisturizing bar. The colors are all natural too, never from dyes or synthetic colors and we only use high quality essential or fragrance oils to scent our goat milk soaps. You'll love the scent, the feel, and the bubbly lather these ingredients give every bar of Goat Milk Stuff soap. We have a wide selection of soaps including special soaps for shaving, washing pets, scrubbing off odors, thwarting poison ivy, exfoliating, and chasing away bugs. You're sure to find a goat milk soap you'll love for yourself or to gift to someone else."

My full bar is Cool Citrus Basil. This bar is AMAZING! It leaves my skin feeling so luxurious and soft! I have noticed that I have not needed to use lotion on my hands as much since I have begun to use this soap. Even though I have been using this bar multiples times a day, I still have about half of the bar left!

Check out this ingredient list! Ingredients: Raw goat milk; Saponified natural fats, coconut oil, olive oil, soybean oil; Fragrance; Natural color.

One of my half bars is Tea Tree. Because of its antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties, I have been using this multiple times daily during this winter/flu season. I love its scent and how well it lathers.

Check out this ingredient list! Ingredients: Raw goat milk; Saponified natural fats, coconut oil, sunflower oil; Essential oil.

My second half bar is Lavender. I love all things lavender. It is my all time favorite scent, perfect for relaxation. This bar, I use in my shower. My one place in life to relax and unwind. This scent is so pure and real that it is by far the best lavender item I have EVER used.

Check out this ingredient list! Ingredients: Raw goat milk; Saponified natural fats, coconut oil, sunflower oil; Essential Oil; Natural color.

I love that with each bar you can SEE and FEEL how real and true the ingredients are. They have practically ever scent imaginable so I should hope that all of you could easily find one that is just right for you!

I had a very difficult time selecting which kind of lip balm I wanted to review. There are SO many yummy sounding flavors to choose from! I ended up selecting Lime and I could not be happier. This is my new favorite lip balm, the one that goes in my purse with me and I am never without it when I leave my house. When I apply it, it tasted like I have bitten into key lime pie. It makes my lips feel so soft and smooth (and you know that this winter weather wants to make my lips dry out - this lip balm won't let it!).

Check out this ingredient list! Ingredients: Soybean oil; Beeswax; Sunflower oil; Cocoa butter; Shea butter; Vitamin E; Essential oil.

Now, I am not a huge fan of anything soy so I am not crazy about soybean being an ingredient but I do understand that when it comes to making things like these, the consistency of the product and how it melts and blends matters a great deal and I would imagine that played a role in why soybean oil is an ingredient.

Goat Milk Stuff makes so much more than just soaps and lip balms! They also make bath fizzies, sugar scrubs, candles, laundry soap, lotions, shaving stuff, and don't forget about the soap bars for your pets! They also have gift sets.

The main thing that I truly love about Goat Milk Stuff is that it is a small, family owned business. PJ (mom) homeschools her kids. Her kids all help out with the business (For instance, 8 year old Hewitt wrote a hand written note on my order form wishing that I enjoy my items!).

Make sure to check out Goat Milk Stuff on Twitter! You can also find Goat Milk Stuff on Facebook!

One lucky winner will receive a $25 gift certificate to Goat Milk Stuff!

Review with Giveaway for Motherlove Herbal Company's Green Salve (US Only, Ends 03/02/13)

I contacted Motherlove Herbal Company a couple of months ago about doing a review with giveaway and I was very excited when they agreed!

I received their Green Salve to review. Here is their description of it:
Green Salve: This all natural versatile salve quickly and effectively takes the itch out of insect bites, bee stings and poison ivy. It soothes and eases the discomforts of rashes, chapped and irritated skin. A must for every home! Motherlove's green salve has a zero rating (zero toxins) on EWG's skin deep database and is made with 100% certified organic ingredients.

Daniella recently had a horrific diaper rash due to her 2 year molars breaking through. The rash lasted 3 weeks. It was the worst diaper rash I have ever seen in all of my years of parenting and child care. We tried coconut oil. We tried Boudreaux's diaper cream. We tried Seventh Generation's Wee Generation diaper cream. Nothing was working. We came *thisclose* to taking her to the doctor for it. We finally tried the Green Salve. It helped quite a bit but didn't fully knock it out. Then we slathered on the Green Salve and covered that in the Wee Generation cream and FINALLY that rash is gone! It got to the point where Daniella would ASK  - "Mama, I have salve, please?" when the rash was bothering her. Even she realized how much it helped! This stuff is amazing! We have also used it for dry skin, healing scratches (you know how they get itchy when healing?) and patches of eczema. It helped them all! We have already used 2/3 of that jar! :)

Motherlove Herbal Company also has a great Resource Page on their website that answers a lot of questions that new moms have.

Motherlove Herbal Company has many great products that are mostly related to pregnancy, birth, baby and breastfeeding. They also make great gifts!

They also have a blog!

One lucky winner will also receive a Green Salve!

Magic Whiteboard Letter Sheet Review

I received a Magic Whiteboard Letter Sheet (8.25 x 11.75) and a Magic Whiteboard dry erase marker for review from Magic Whiteboard Products.

When this first arrived, I was perplexed at exactly what I could/should do with it. It is a rather unique product. Here is Magic Whiteboard Products's product description of their Letter Sheet -

Reusable dry erase sheets that stick with static cling to any hard surface
Write on Magic Whiteboard with dry erase markers, erase and rewrite as many times as you want
Great for making erasable notes, shopping lists, reminders and to-do lists
20 white dry erase sheets in every pack
Each sheet measures 8.25″ x 11.75″
Magic Whiteboard requires no mounting hardware or adhesive needed to secure the sheets to the wall
Sticks with static to wood, drywall or glass, and won’t leave any residue behind
Stick, Write, Erase, Move, Reuse

So, I let Daniella use it to draw and practice her letters and shapes on.

We stuck it on our office window and let her go at it. :) She loved it. It stayed up fairly well via static cling. The marker was easy to erase.

At a cost of $15.99 for 20 of these, I personally think that the price is a little high. This is why -

After just that one time of using it, the Letter Sheet fell off my desk. I found it there a couple of days later and this is what it looked like. :( I think that we would go through a 20 pack way too quickly to make this a cost efficient product.

Here is a YouTube video that shows you a bit more about Magic Whiteboard Products.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5FR6mhZnAI

I do like that they are reusable and easily replace Post-It notes or the like. Saving paper is a good thing for the environment!

Stay in touch with Magic Whiteboard Products through Facebook and Twitter @MagicBoardUS.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Review with Giveaway of the Children's Book "Nate Rocks the Boat" by Karen Pokras Toz

Brandon was so excited to have the chance to review Nate Rocks the Boat by Karen Pokras Toz. He is an avid reader and quickly read through the entire book! I cannot believe how much he giggled and he had to share tidbits with me often! He really enjoyed reading this.

Here is a blurb about the book:

With fourth grade finally winding down, 10 year old Nathan Rockledge is looking forward to a fun and relaxing summer at home with his friends. That is, until his mom decides that he has to go to overnight camp with his annoying older sister. When his best friend, Tommy, decides to tag along, Nathan thinks maybe his summer won't be so bad after all. Plus he does get to be away from his mom's awful cooking for six weeks!

Amongst Color Wars competitions, a flaky counselor, and a bully named "No-Neck",  Nathan turns to his trusty sketchpad, transforming himself into Nate Rocks: 10 year old extraordinaire. His speedboat ready for action, Nate saves the day time and time again from the perils of floods, snakes, ghosts and even the most wanted criminals.

Here is Brandon's thoughts on Nate Rocks the Boat:

"I like how in the beginning that Nathan is telling his mom that he doesn't want to go to Camp Spring Ridge. He wants to go to the regular summer camp that he always goes to with Tommy and Sam. Tommy ends up being able to go with him and Abby. Abby wants to stay home because there is a strict no phone policy. I like the parts of the book where Nate transforms into Nate Rocks.  It makes it seem like Nate has lots of jobs, is very famous and very rich because of the different jobs he has.
My book came with a bookmark that says "Nate Rocks deals with problems and issues that almost every kid can relate to." which I think is very true! NATE ROCKS!"

And here is some information for you about the author:

YAY! More Moms Are Breastfeeding!!! But...More Moms Need to Breastfeed LONGER!

A study was done where new moms where asked whether or not they breastfed their children.

Moms in 2000
70.3 percent at birth
34.5 percent at 6 months
16 percent at 12 months

Moms in 2008
74.6 percent at birth ( a 4.3% increase!)
44.4 percent at 6 months ( a 9.9% increase!)
23.4 percent at 12 months ( a 7.4% increase!)

The sad part here is that there was still only 23.4% of moms nursing at the one year mark that is recommend - the World Health Organization actually recommends that moms nurse for TWO YEARS. But that is 51.2% of moms who for some reason between birth and one year old stopped nursing. :( This saddens me. I know that there are probably a hundred different reasons. But I guarantee that I can narrow them down to two main reasons -
Not enough support from family/employer
Pediatrician "concerns" (not gaining "enough" weight, reflux, allergies, etc.)

One thing that I would like to see start happening is more moms REFUSING THE BAG OF FORMULA AT THE HOSPITAL! Better yet, I would love to see more hospitals not even OFFER any formula at the hospital!

I would like to encourage all moms to find one breastfeeding mom this week and do something to support her -
Offer her a comfortable place to sit to breastfeed
Offer her some water
Offer her some pumped milk if she feels some donor milk would be good for her child
See a nursing mom at the mall, daycare, or library? Tell her what a great job she is doing!

Review with Giveaway for Kugga Kids (US Only Ends 2/24/13)

I contacted Kugga Kids a couple of months ago about doing a review with giveaway for them and I was very excited when they agreed! They sent me a Pink/Red Feather Headband to review. They are currently on sale for only $12! (regular price is $14)

Daniella loves the "sparkles" on top!

The feathers are REAL goose feathers and they are SUPER soft!

I love how it can be coordinated with many outfits and has a real vintage style feel to it.

She had to pose for the camera! :) She feels like such a princess when she wears this!

This is the perfect headband for Valentine's Day!

This headband seriously "makes" an outfit! It can be paired with a dressy outfit or just a cute shirt and jeans. Can easily be dressed up or dressed down.

The headband is really well made. I have had no fears of the feathers or the sparkly parts coming off even though Daniella constantly rubs the soft feathers and touches the sparkles. (Who can blame her - she knows it is adorable!)

We have gotten many comments on this headband whenever she has worn it! Everyone has loved it and a few have asked where we have gotten it from. :)

I also loved that the headband came on a card that reads on the back:

WARNING:
USE CAUTION WHEN USING THIS PRODUCT AS IT MAY CONTAIN SMALL PARTS. DISCARD ITEM IF THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY APPEARS TO BE COMPROMISED OR SHOWS EXCESSIVE WEAR. THIS ITEM IS NOT INTENDED AS A TOY. Review with Giveaway for Lovable Labels (US/Can Only, Ends 02/19/13)

I was so excited to receive some personalized Lovable Labels to review. The amount of labels included was way more than I could have imagined!

I received their Friendship Pack which includes:
30 Sticker Labels
80 Slimline Labels
10 Fun Stickies

PLUS, THEY COME WITH A FREE FRIENDSHIP SAMPLER THAT INCLUDED AN ADDITIONAL 40 SLIMLINE LABELS.
You are able to add the sampler to your cart, free of charge, in any design you wish (it does not have to match your friendship pack design) and the name can be anything you wish as well. Many customers simply get an extra set of labels for their own child, but you can use them for a sibling, friend, cousin, etc. At $24.99 for 160 labels, this is one of best value packs they offer and it is only available until the end of February.

As my faithful readers know, we highly prefer gender neutral items/items that work for more than one child. Therefore, we chose to not have the labels made with a child specific name but rather our family name.

Fun Stickers

Sticker Labels

Slimline Labels
They even come with some great instructions.

Then I started putting them to use! :) We found lots of ways to use them!

Bible Story books in our toy bag for church

Other toys in our toy bag for church - book set, Little People Nativity Set, wooden Busy bead toy

Diaper changing pad

Inside the toy bag too!

DVDs and games around the house

More items from our toy bag for church (Sensory cards, artist set.)

We found so many uses for them! I love that they are dishwasher safe, waterproof, UV resistant and more! I especially like the slimline size for labeling books and DVDs.

Other uses could include labeling everything your child takes with them to daycare, camp, or school (water bottles/sippy cup, backpack, jackets, lunch box, shoes, show and tell items, etc.).

Lovable Labels launched two new designs for their friendship packs this year which were the "Whimsical Love Story" and "You're Out of This World" designs.

One thing I would love to suggest to Lovable Labels for their Friendship Pack stickers would be more gender neutral colors. The icons had plenty of gender neutral options, which was great! But I could choose from basically only two color sets - boyish or girlish. There are four sets of each, which is great, too. But I would love to see an extra set of maybe yellow, green and blue which are all colors that they already offer :)

They also do fundraisers, so you might want to suggest them to your child's daycare or school!

Friendship4 -  This coupon code offers $5 off any purchase of $25 or more and is valid until February 28th, 2013.

Lovable Labels has offered a giveaway to one lucky winner of a Friendship Pack which includes a free friendship sampler in their choice of design!
