Update on How Homeschooling is Going - Days 1 and 2

So far, my general schedule that I posted has not been followed so well. Well, I take that back. The guidelines and parameters of it as in the flow of Brandon's day has generally followed it but NOT the times listed :) Yesterday was his first full day of homeschooling and he LOVED it. He liked being able to independently do his work, work at his own pace and he really loves the curriculum that I selected.

Today, we went on a field trip to the library with a homeschooling family we are friends with and that threw off our whole morning. We also dropped by his olld school to pick up some things that we didn't have access to on Friday when I withdrew him plus he dropped off a bag of Box Tops for Education, Campbell's Labels for Education and Tyson Labels as well. (We plan to continue clipping these and drop them off to his old school every so often to continue to help support them!). So he did his school work while Daniella and I napped (her whole schedule has been thrown a loop with the time change so I haven't been able to sleep well either. But that nap was super refreshing.) He loves to work on Khan Academy for his math and he has dabbled some with their Computer Science section as well.

He has worked with the PE book that I made both days and so far that has gone really well. He really likes to move and it breaks up his day from mostly sitting in the front of the computer. Plus, exercise is a good thing! :) He likes that each day so far has been different enough that he won't get bored from doing the same things over and over.

He really likes the supplemental activities I have given his to to as a wrap up to his day. Yesterday he practiced his Spanish vocabulary words by using them in sentences and today he practiced drawing a car (one of his current interests is to better his drawing skills). He likes that he is still learning something but that it is more fun and less work plus it is a good way to bring his heart rate back down right after PE.

It has been odd not to jump up early in the morning, see him dressed in his school uniform and be ready to leave for carpool to head of to school. We went grocery shopping in the early hours of the morning and the cashier actually asked, "Is he homeschooled?" And she was really excited to learn that we had just started. We have a GREAT homeschooling accepting community around us! :)

So, that is it for now. I hope that by the end of the week we can learn how to better manage time and stay within the schedule a bit more. I don't expect perfection quite yet :)
