I contacted Squatty Potty a few months ago about doing a review for all of you. I hope you enjoy it.

I just want to say right at the beginning that I know "potty talk" can be uncomfortable. But it is important for health reasons that your body is expelling its waste efficiently and in good timing. You don't want waste sitting in your body for very long and festering. Not only does that make your belly feel uncomfortable, but it has the potential to encourage your body to absorb the bad stuff that it originally intended to flush out.
Did you know that in other cultures, it is typical to squat while eliminating from the body? Us "fancy Americans" like to sit on our porcelain thrones but it really isn't the best way for our body to eliminate. It is not the natural way of sitting. Things aren't lined up right. Squatting has been proven to aid in the elimination process by straightening out your anal rectal angle to prevent blockage of fecal mater in your colon.

I have had difficulty most of my life with eliminating efficiently. I never had constipation issues, things just took awhile to move along. I have noticed a huge difference since I began using the Squatty Potty. I eliminate faster than without it and more often than I used to. I used to move my bowels about 3-4 times a week. Now I go almost daily.

So what is a Squatty Potty, you ask? It is a step stool of sorts that wraps around the base of your toilet. It has spots on either side that are large enough to place your feet on to lift your feet and legs to the more natural squatting position while sitting on the toilet. It conveniently tucks under and around the toilet out of the way when not in use.

While I am typically the only one in the house who uses it, I know that my son has used it on occasion. In fact, I have encouraged him to at times when he has complained of a belly ache. Daniella is still too short to use it. My husband has tried it, but says that he feels awkward with his knees up near his ears. That is a bit of an exaggeration... However, it does take some getting used to.

Do you SEE the change in posture?!?!

Overall, I feel that the Squatty Potty is a good idea for health reasons. I highly recommend it and suggest that you check it out for your family. I want one for every bathroom!

  3. This posture was brought to our attention during a Child Birth class we took. It was recommended to always "squat" when using the bathroom to help 'things work smoother'.
We've tried using a regular stool but this seems SO Much nicer!!!
