Learning Fun with Hot Dots Jr.by Educational Insights (Review with Giveaway, Ends 01/01/13, US Only)

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Daniella was super excited to receive  Hot Dots Let's Master Reading and Math sets. It has been nice for me as well to use as an assessment with her to check her learning progress.

As a homeschooling, leans towards unschooling, family, we don't use standard curriculum for learning. We prefer to provide our children with plenty of learning opportunities. The Hot Dots Let's Master Reading and Math sets that we received are for the Kindergarten level which is just right for Daniella.

Daniella began this school year doing upper Pre-K, lower Kindergarten level work and has quickly progressed. The Hot Dots Let's Master sets have helped show me just how much! Each set (Reading or Math) comes with two books, Book 1 and Book 2. Books 1 are an easier level than Books 2. So far, Daniella can work her way through most of Book 1 for each subject.

These are the two sets we received.

Here is some examples of the activities inside the Math books.

Here is the Ace the Dog talking pen. Each set comes with the same pen. Each pen can work interchangeably with all of the books even if the subject didn't come with that particular pen. Daniella was confused about that at first, thinking that the Math pen had to be use with the Math books and vice versa. Both pens are identical. A suggestion that I would like to make to Educational Insights would be to have the pen sold separately from the books. It seems wasteful to have two pens that do the same thing so we just put one away in case one gets broken.

The sets are super easy to use. Just open the book to the page you want to work on, use the pen to click on an answer dot and Ace the Dog will let you know if your answer is correct or incorrect! He will make sounds and light up green for correct and red for incorrect.

Daniella isn't fully reading yet. She can read about a dozen sight words and can identify all letters by sight and sound. So if she has to count five dogs and click on the answer dot for the word five, she can sound out the answers and determine which one must say the word five. So this set is good for slow or reluctant readers as well.

I do have to admit that I am very impressed with her progress through the Hot Dots books. For having just turned three at the end of October, she is ahead for her age, but that is one of the blessings of homeschooling. Hot Dots Let's Master sets are great for helping to meet your child at their individual level.

The new Hot Dots Let's Master sets are for grade levels Pre-K to Grade 3. Each grade specific 2 book set is chock-full of important skills that children need to master at each grade level in reading or math (each set is specific to either reading OR math). The sets all come with a Hot Dots interactive pen and there are 100 lessons on either math or reading and language art skills. Fifteen of the 100 lessons are challenge activities that prepare children for skills at the next grade level. Each set is $24.99 and is currently available exclusively at www.educationalinsights.com.
